Michigan Wedding Ideas for 2023 (from a Year of Epic Michigan Weddings)

If you follow me on Instagram, you already know that the last year was an epic year over here at Brittany Allen Photography. I was a part of so many incredible wedding days, and I am continually honored that you all trust me enough to document one of the most important days of your life over and over again. I truly can’t believe this is my job sometimes! If you are recently engaged and are looking for Michigan wedding ideas for 2023 (or 2024!), this post is definitely written for you.

Today, I’m going to share a roundup of some of the top Michigan wedding days I’ve had over the last year. Get ready to save some of these to your Pinterest board!

Something Blue at a Freedom Hill Wedding

Kicking off our roundup of Michigan wedding ideas, I had to share the gorgeous rich blue tones from Kaytlynn and Victor’s Freedom Hill wedding. If you are looking for a classic and timeless wedding color palette, you can’t go wrong with something blue. If you are looking for some extra inspiration to make your wedding day unique and personalized to you, you need to see more of their incredible wedding day details on the blog here.

A Destination Wedding Followed by a Detroit Wedding Reception

Marrina and Eric met me after they held their destination wedding in Florida. I was able to capture their outdoor wedding portraits at a gorgeous park in Metro Detroit and take just a few photos of the after-party at Barrister Gardens Banquet Center. These two were already technically married, and they were absolutely GLOWING. If you have been looking for Michigan wedding ideas that include posing ideas for your wedding or engagement photos, you need to check out their full feature here.

Two Epic Royal Park Hotel Weddings

Mariella and Ray, and Patricia and Chris‘ wedding days could not have been more different, but I could never choose a favorite. Mariella and Ray chose an elegant and rich wedding color palette and Patricia and Chris chose softer lavender shades. If you are gathering Michigan wedding ideas before you’ve saved your date at a venue, I wanted to share these two Royal Park Hotel weddings together, so that you can truly see that the sky is the limit when you choose the right venue. For a list of the top wedding venues in Michigan, head here next.

This Art Nouveau Downtown Detroit Wedding was a Vibe

You would never guess that these two hired me at the last minute (only three weeks before their downtown Detroit wedding!). I always love getting to know my couples before their wedding day and this felt tight. With that said, Jocelyn and Spenser are two of the absolute sweetest people I’ve ever met and their wedding ended up being exactly as they envisioned for her wedding day.

Throughout their wedding day, we started at the Fort Street Presbyterian Church, then were able to capture skyline portraits (something I am always obsessed with!), and finished with their wedding day at The Gem Theatre. If you are like me and love all the urban vibes and art dreaming of an Art Nouveau wedding, check out their full wedding feature here.

Quintessential Fall Michigan Wedding Ideas at The Great Lakes Culinary Center

If you are looking for fall Michigan wedding ideas, you simply have to check out Kristen and Jake’s wedding at the Great Lakes Culinary Center. With fall florals adorning their outdoor wedding ceremony arch to an evening reception that included campfire smores, when I think about the top Michigan wedding ideas I documented over the last year, their wedding day is near the top. If you ask me to photograph your outdoor wedding in Michigan (which by the way, I would be honored to do and you can learn more about working with me here), I only have one request: bring your dog!

A Fairytale Summer Micro Wedding in Detroit

If you are looking for small Michigan wedding ideas, Jordan and Kyle’s summer Detroit wedding felt iconic. These two first made a splash on the Brittany Allen blog with their engagement photos at Edsel and Eleanor Ford House, and I have been counting down the days to capture their wedding at Bea’s Detroit ever since. You may think I am biased being a Detroit wedding photographer, but I absolutely love this city. It feels very sophisticated and full of life, which is exactly the energy I love to capture during Michigan wedding days. You don’t have to go far for an epic wedding day.

A Private Lakeside Wedding Day

Although I love a city wedding, I can’t help but be obsessed with some of the outdoor wedding ideas at this private lakeside wedding too. If you are choosing to get married on the family property instead of a more traditional wedding venue, I want to be there! Morgan and Joe’s wedding day was one of the more relaxed wedding days I have ever photographed. They wanted it to feel like one giant party and it did.

Are you a DIY bride? I couldn’t believe it when Morgan told me she made all of her floral centerpieces personally. You’ll definitely want to check out the full wedding feature here for all the floral inspiration you need.

Blush Wedding Ideas from a Fairytale Wedding

You simply can’t choose your favorite Michigan wedding ideas without carefully considering Randi and David’s outdoor wedding this past summer. I was in love with her gorgeous blush wedding dress, the lighting of each space was a photographer’s dream, and the moment she walked down the wrought iron stairs to meet her Prince Charming was a moment I will never forget. If you are dreaming of your own fairytale wedding day, you need to check out all of the details from this blush and greenery wedding here.

Last, but certainly not least, we have Alyssa and Nick’s wedding. If these two look familiar, you may have seen photos of their rainy engagement photoshoot at The Detroit Zoo (one of the most fun engagement photoshoot locations I’ve captured to date!). This is not the first wedding I’ve documented at the Doubletree by Hilton Port Huron, but it’s easily one of the top ones. Between her flowy and fun blush dress, and the iconic waterfront wedding portraits we captured, you’re going to want to see more here.
